Cisco 67x Bridged Mode Configuration

These instructions will guide you through configuring your Cisco DSL modem to use SpiritOne DSL. By default, all SpiritOne DSL accounts require your modem to be set in Bridging mode. If you wish to use NAT to share a single IP address with multiple computers, you will need to call the SpiritOne technical support department to set your DSL circuit in Routing Mode.

To prepare your modem for configuration, you will need to connect your modem to your computer using the management cable that came with the modem. One end of the cable should be plugged into the MGMT port on the back of the DSL modem, the other end plugs into a serial port on the back of your PC. (Mac users may need to purchase a serial-to-serial connector to use the modem or printer port to configure the modem.)

Initial Hyperterm Set-Up

Use Hyperterm to connect to your modem. Set the connection to your COM (may be either COM1 or COM2, depending on your system configuration) or your modem port, using the following settings:

Bits per second: 38400
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow Control: None

When you open the connection to your modem, you will see:

Helo!
CBOS v2.4.3

(you may see a different version number.)

If you don't know whether to use the CAP instructions or the DMT instructions, either Qwest's or SpiritOne's support department can tell you.

Always keep your Cisco modem's CBOS updated to the most current version available. CBOS updates are often released to patch potential security holes in DSL modems. CBOS updates and instructions on applying the updates can be found at Qwest Web Site.

The SpiritOne Support department cannot assist you with updating the CBOS on your modem. If you require a technician to walk you through updating your CBOS, you will need to call Qwest's Technical Support Department at 1-800-247-7285.
