Removing Viruses

At some point, every PC user will have to deal with a virus infection, whether because we opened an attachment we shouldn't have, or downloaded a file containing a virus. If you ever think you may have a virus, it's better to be safe than sorry. Scan your computer for viruses immediately!

Since many modern viruses terminate antivirus programs, any antivirus software installed on the computer may no longer be able to protect your computer against viruses. There are two tools that can be used to scan your computer for viruses even if the antivirus software installed on the computer is no longer working.

  • Trendmicro's Free Online Virus Scan

Trend Micro offers a free web-based virus scan. This virus scan requires the use of Internet Explorer. Some viruses may prevent access to the virus scan. If this is the case, try the next tool.
  • McAfee Stinger

McAfee's Stinger is a stand-alone antivirus program. Stinger requires no installation. Just download it to a place on your hard drive you can find later, and double-click on the icon to launch it. Since some viruses will prevent the Stinger site from being accessed, if following the link above gives an error, try downloading it from this link instead. If that link still doesn't work, email our Support department at Support@SpiritOne.com and we can email you a recent copy of Stinger.

What are People Saying about SpiritOne?

"I have had great experiences with the service department. When I first signed up, someone came out and helped me get connected with SpiritOne late one night, in return for cookies! Virtually every time I've called with questions or problems since then, the service folks have been unfailingly kind and helpful, even though I am essentially incompetent with technical issues.
